Microneedling Therapy in Ocala, FL

An innovative way to enhance your skin’s radiance!

Microneedling (a.k.a collagen induction therapy) is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure with proven results for treating multiple skin concerns. This easy and effective procedure treats fine lines, deeper wrinkles, photodamage, acne scars, and improves the overall skin’s appearance—it even helps stretch marks.

We use the SkinPen® Microneedling system by Bellus Medical, the industry leader, to create thousands of precise micro-injuries in the skin. This leads to the release of grown factors, which stimulate new healthy collagen, and directs new blood flow to the treated skin. The result is a softer, brighter, younger-looking complexion. It also allows the penetration of products into the skin, so your skincare routine will work even better!

Question and Answer with Dr. Locke about Microneedling:

How does Microneedling work?

A Microneedling device is used which has multiple very fine needles on the tip that create micro-channels in the skin. These channels initiate a three-phase wound-repair process (inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling) which leads to the creation of new collagen and skin tissue. The overall structure of the skin is kept in-tact allowing you rapid healing with little to no downtime.

What cosmetic concerns does Microneedling treat?

Microneedling provides proven results for multiple cosmetic concerns:

  • Acne scars
  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles (superficial and deep)
  • Sun-damaged skin
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Large pores
  • Stretch marks (striae)
  • Dark spots and other hyperpigmentation

Is it safe?

Microneedling is performed in a safe and precise manner with the use of a sterile, disposable tip that allows effective treatment to skin including hard-to-reach places (e.g., around the eyes, nose, and lips). The Microneedling system used at Carlyle Dermatology is The SkinPen® by Bellus Medical. This device is the first Microneedling device cleared by the FDA to treat facial acne scars. In addition to this indication, The SkinPen has been successfully used to safely treat numerous other skin conditions with proven and predictable results.

Can I combine this with other cosmetic treatments?

Yes. While Microneedling alone typically produces excellent results, patients often find enhanced results when this procedure is combined with additional cosmetic treatments, such as platelet-rich plasma therapy and chemical peels. At your cosmetic consultation, Dr. Locke will listen to your concerns and discuss treatment options including combination treatments that will help you achieve your goals.

What should I expect on the day of my treatment?

When you arrive, a topical anesthetic cream will be applied to the treatment area for your comfort. The basic Microneedling treatment may include the application of healing gels, serums and platelet-rich plasma (PRP). The entire procedure is normally completed within 30 – 60 minutes depending on the required treatment and the anatomical site.

After the procedure, the skin may be red and flushed in appearance, similar to moderate sunburn. You may also experience temporary pinpoint skin bleeding, skin tightness, dryness/flaking of the skin, sensitivity to touch on certain areas, and/or skin pain. This will diminish significantly within a few hours following the procedure. Within the next 24 hours, the skin will return to normal in most cases.

Remember, skin rejuvenation takes time, and you will continue to see the results in the weeks and months to come, but you will notice an immediate “glow” in the days following Microneedling.

Is this procedure painful?

Most patients do not experience significant pain or discomfort with Microneedling therapy and require only topical numbing cream for comfort. However, we are proud to offer our patients a safe and effective way to control discomfort and anxiety during cosmetic and surgical procedures with our PRO-NOX™ Nitrous Oxide Delivery System. With this system, YOU are in control and administer the gas yourself depending on your pain level. You breathe in the oxygen and nitrous oxide mixture, and it takes effect in seconds. This offers you immediate relief from pain and anxiety and allows for quick recovery. To learn more about this pain control option, click here.

Why is Microneedling a GREAT solution for skin rejuvenation?

  • All-natural — This procedure does not involve the injection or use of any toxins, chemicals, or foreign substances. It stimulates YOUR OWN body to rejuvenate the skin from the inside out.
  • No downtime — You can expect a sunburn-like redness for 24 hours post-procedure but can go about your normal activity immediately.
  • Affordable compared to laser procedures.
  • Safe — The SkinPen® device used at Carlyle Dermatology is the world’s first FDA-cleared Microneedling device.
  • Used for ALL skin types.
  • Great for ANY time of year.
