Skin Cancer Screenings in Ocala, FL

Skin cancer affects people of all colors and races. It is extremely important to catch skin cancer in its early stages. One of the most effective ways to do this is through a skin cancer screening.

At Carlyle Dermatology, Dr. Locke performs comprehensive and detailed full-body skin examinations focused on the early detection of skin cancer.  She is a trained expert in skin cancer diagnosis and treatment with sub-specialized training in cutaneous oncology management and the highly-skilled Mohs micrographic surgical technique which offers the highest cure rate for skin cancer.

If you are diagnosed with skin cancer, Dr. Locke will thoroughly explain your diagnosis and its implications on your current and future health. Together, you will discuss all of the appropriate treatment options based on your skin cancer type and develop a customized treatment plan that is right for you.

Question and Answer with Dr. Locke about Skin Cancer Screening:

You should have a skin cancer screening if:

  • You want a baseline skin exam by a board-certified dermatologist and teaching on how to monitor your moles at home
  • You have a changing mole or a new mole that concerns you
  • You have a history of multiple atypical moles
  • You have a history of skin cancer
  • You have a history of pre-cancers
  • You have a family history of melanoma or other skin cancer
  • You have a history of blistering sunburns or tanning bed use

What to expect at your skin cancer screening appointment:

At your comprehensive skin cancer screening appointment, Dr. Locke will listen to your concerns about your skin and give you ample time to describe your personal and family history of skin health. A detailed full-body skin examination will then be performed at your comfort level. Dr. Locke often uses a high-powered dermatoscope for magnified visualization and diagnosis of concerning spots. Lesions will be identified that require treatment (such as pre-cancers) and further diagnostic testing (such as a skin biopsy) to determine if it is skin cancer. During this examination, each of your concerns will be addressed and the findings explained so that you understand your own skin. You will receive education on how to monitor your moles and skin at home by performing skin self-examinations. You will also receive education on the proper methods and products to protect yourself from excessive sun exposure.
